Don't think we could get away with calling him the sweetest grumpy old man ever. He was an amazing man. In his own way ahead of his time. Called a spade a spade but always had your back no matter what. A special thanks to all the staff at Alpine View and Burlington Villages. Messages may be sent c/- The Graham Family, PO Box 31300, Christchurch. A funeral service for Ian will be held at the Canterbury Crematorium Chapel, corner Linwood Avenue and Keighleys Road, Christchurch, on Friday, May 31 at 2.00pm.

I have memories of Ian as my sister Gaylene's adored father-in-law back in the day. Now they will be catching up. Thinking of Peter, Jacqui and Julia and all the Graham family and sending my love and hugs

We haven't seen you for many many years but you still seemed to look the same from Facebook posts. We, The McAlpines are with you in spirit. Peter, Jacque and Julia...I am sure Gaylene is with you in spirit too. Kia Kaha

I have happy memories of Uncle Ian. He and Auntie Rose always had a Christmas present for me to look forward to (although that seemed to stop when I was 18 for some reason - haha); we visited the farm near Rotheram sometimes; and we were always welcome to stay the night on our travels through Picton. These days I feel like that for my nephews and nieces: it's nice when they sail in and out of my home between their holiday destinations.
He always phoned my Dad (his brother) on Dad's birthday. Never failed: Dad always looked forward to it - we weren't allowed on the phone too long those Feb 2nds!!
Great Uncle to my kids Michael and Lauren; great uncle to me and my sister and brothers.
Rest In Peace, Uncle Ian.
