I well remember the huge admiration my father (Alex Murphy, P.K. Stephens Island 1952-54) had, when talking about Brian Pickering skippering the 'Enterprise' with such marvellous skill and care. I also remember standing on the deck of the rolling vessel and being told by the crew to hold on tight to the rail and wait, before moving to the cabin. We were in safe hands.
With kind regards to all Brian's family and friends. May your many happy memories be a comfort to you now, and in the days ahead.

Hi Millie and Angela, I was so sorry to read of your Dad's passing, I was driving up Taranaki St a few weeks ago which triggered thoughts about how he was faring. I have many happy memories in my dealings with both Brian and also your Mum, always keeping a watch over the youngies at QCYC 'back in the day'. Brian will be missed and was an inspiration to many.

Deepest sympathy in the loss of Brian. He was certainly a man of the sea and will be remembered as a person of skill that could turn his hand to most activities. He will be remembered with total respect particularly by the Marlborough Sounds seafaring community

Millie and Angelia, I was saddened to hear of your dad's passing. Yet another stalwart of Picton has left us, but in doing so has left many memories behind. May you and the families cherish those memories and find strength and courage in those memories and stories you all share. May he rest in Peace, Marie Bowden (nee Sullivan)

In my youth, I had the opportunity to travel on the Enterprise alongside Brian. His dedication, pace, and passion left a lasting impression on me. Later, I had the privilege to sail with him on Straitsman, which was just as motivating. Although I knew I could never match his energy, I relished the time spent at sea with him. Our condolences go out to Millie, Angela, and the rest of the family.
