Genevieve and Danielle, I was so shocked to have a work colleague ring to ask if I had read the obituary informing us of your mother“s passing. It has been 20 years since I last saw her, but the time in our lives that we spent together when she taught at Springlands School with me was very special. Her kindness and warm and the companionship we shared as widows is unforgettable. Your home at Whatamaunga Bay was always so welcoming and I have exceptionally fond memories of the visits I made there. It was exciting to see the passion, dreams and vision she built the Cherrywood home with. It was sad seeing you all leave for Travis Country. Little did I know that I would see Deb for limited time after that. She was an extremely kind friend and a devoted mother to you girls.
I am really sad that I did not know that she was unwell, and that I will not be able to attend Mona Vale. We have school planning meetings that it is essential that I attend as I am leading them.
Know that in my absence, I will be thinking of you all. The footprint that Deb has left on the planet and on our lives is one of sincere kindness and goodwill to others inspire of her life circumstance. Deb will be remembered as a very brave and independent woman who worked hard for what she believed in and to realise her dreams even though life did not always treat her kindly. Sending you girls the aroha and strength to live fulfilling lives built on the foundations your mother laid for you. Take good care of each other. Dona FF xxd

Rhys McKinley, Fran Nolan, Maioha and Arapeta McKinley send our sincere condolences to the whanau at this sad time.
We have fond memories of Deb from the late 1990s when we were teaching together at Waikawa Bay School. Deb also served on the Board of Trustees, and Danielle and Genevieve attended the school.
Deb could connect with people from a range of walks of life; she was passionate about education and fiercely devoted to her girls.
We are thinking of you all and wish you strength and comfort in the days ahead.
