Sad to learn of Di's passing, I knew both Di and Frank through their involvement with the Alfa Romeo Club and shared some happy times with both when they lived in Auckland. Sending my sympathies to family for the loss of wonderful woman and a friend who made some great contributions to science and advocacy for women. I was incredibly lucky to have Di come into the Head of Department role in the Psychology Department at a time when I was struggling to see an end to my PhD. She very quickly became one of the most supportive and caring colleagues and mentors that I have ever had. Di went out of her way to support me and get me to submit my thesis. Without her I would not have my career and would not even have met my wife. She had a real gift for fixing things and I'm sure there are many more people with stories like mine. RIP Di, I will never forget your kindness.

Dr Dianne (Di) McCarthy was the epitome of kindness, encouragement and strength when I was an adult student in the Psychology Paper 101 at The University of Auckland. It was her tenacity that passed to me and from there I completed four degrees that included my PhD in 2016. She was inspiring and motivated and will always be remembered by Dr Judith Selvaraj. Rest in peace Di

What sad news to hear. We bought Hawkesbury Road from Di and Frank and enjoy every minute of this beautiful house and gardens. Our condolences to family members. God be with you and comfort you. Michael and Christine Potts
