Sorry to hear of Ians passing. Ian was a great help and friend to my parents Marion and Frank Standish when they moved to the Wairau Valley in the late 80's.

Condolences to the Lyall family... enjoyed many a chat with him over at Brayshaw Park with the horse and I am sure we still have a couple of his rescue falcons flying over our house.

Ian started his life long work in the Forestry Industry when he joined the New Zealand Forest Service as a Woodsman cadet at Golden Downs in 1955. He went on to be a noted Forest Ranger on the West coast and about 1970 he resigned to become a Forest Manager for Fletcher Forests West Coast. From here he went to Thames to develop new Forests around that region. He did a stint up in the Pacific Islands looking at developing a market for local hardwoods.
From here he was the manager for Tasman in the Marlborough region until he retired. Ian was a multi talented person, capable of many things, in particular leather work, line artist, bagpipe player but anything horses was a passion. He also ran a local bird refuge for injured hawks and magpies.
A respected Forest Ranger and Forest Manager in the Forest Industry
