Maureen Dorothy Elizabeth Montoro WHITE

Maureen WHITE Obituary

Died March 20, 2024 in Richmond, Nelson, two days short of her 98th birthday. Born in England, Maureen trained as a nurse during WWII, and came to New Zealand in 1948. She met and married her beloved Bill (deceased), and raised four children in Marlborough. Maureen revelled in everything New Zealand offered her, but never forgot the Sussex coastline. She adored her dogs and everyone else's too; prized honesty; and loved white chocolate; morning coffee; the beauty and power of words; her church fellowship; crosswords; cricket; monarch butterflies; the morepork's call; letter writing; her garden. But above all, she loved her family, her children Vicky, Moira, Philippa and Michael; her stepdaughter Jacqui; her five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and everyone's spouses and partners. A very special mother-in-law to Richard and Nikki. She had a beautiful smile, and used it all the time. Special thanks to everyone who cared so wonderfully for Maureen during the last few months. Maureen loved flowers, but asked that instead of bringing them to her funeral, people consider making a donation to Nelson SPCA https://www.spca.nz/donate, or Tear Fund https://www.tearfund.org.nz/Donate. A service to celebrate Maureen's beautiful life will be held at St John's Church, Edward Street, Wakefield, on Saturday, March 23, at 11.00am.

Sincere condolences to Maureen's family. Such an amazing long life, of a lovely lady. Maureen, was the first Sister I worked under when I arrived at Wairau Hospital 1954. It was the TB Shelters, and children's ward. Maureen, was so encouraging and welcoming.
