Such a shock to hear of Phil's passing 4 months later... A great loss to not only his friends and family but to the wider Marlborough community. Principled and professional, Phil would go the extra mile to help those wherever he could, and was fastidious in his efforts to do so. We shared stories of our travel experiences in Europe; he was larger than life. A person of this calibre is sorely missed, and not forgotten. Rest easy Phil, God bless.

I was so sad to hear this devastating news. Phil was lawyer for family member ad on of the few in the system to truly care. He appeared in a TV documentary about FASD still available online. My deepest sympathy to you all.

Cameron, Michael and Alice. I cried for a few days after hearing the news of Phil´s death. He was an uncle to us. We called him uncle Phil and I knew him before he even met your darling mother. I used to sit with his father outside and he´d peel me mandarins fro a tree at the back door of Phil´s first house.
I will miss him dearly. I wanted to extend my condolences to you and your families and let you know I´m thinking of you. Much love guys

I spent just one weekend in Phil´s company when he came to West Wales with Mike & Elsie. He was a truly lovely man and joined in with our fun like one of the family.
His death is truly tragic and my thoughts are with his wonderful family. Xx

To all the wonderful Watsons, we are so sorry for your enormous loss.

We were lucky enough to spend just one weekend with Phil in west Wales with our magical friends, Mike and Elsie. We spent the weekend sipping wine (only ever NZ wine, obviously) and swapping stories around tables, on beaches and in pubs - in both glorious sunshine and absurd rain. We talked family, friendship, wine, rugby, happiness in life and everything in between.

In just a few days, we were completely drawn in by Phil´s incredible magnetic force. So kind, so generous, so fun and so warm. It was so clear how big his heart was and how much of it he gave to Mike, Elsie and everyone else in his life.

A few months later, we needed some legal advice. Via Elsie, Phil gave us such generous advice with such care. We were stunned that someone we´d only met for one weekend would go to such lengths to help us out.

It was such a shock to hear of his passing and we can´t begin to comprehend the hole that this will leave in the lives of those who loved him so much and were lucky enough to exist in his orbit.

We´re thinking of you all, sending all our love from the other side of the world and we´ll be raising a glass of the overpriced NZ Sauvignon Blanc that Phil insisted on buying for us at that pub.

Love Emily, Jonny and Morwen.
