ROY MARTIN Obituary

MARTIN, ROY S. Roy S. Martin, 83, passed away, surrounded by his loving family at home, on September 30, 2021, after a short battle with cancer. He was born on November 22, 1937 in Odessa, Ontario, to Bill and Gladys "Battle" Martin. Roy was passionate about sports as a participant and as an avid fan. In his youth, hockey and football occupied his time and he had the nickname "Diesel" that emphasized his speed and athleticism. Roy was a proud graduate of Queen's University in 1961, who continued his later education at the University of Toronto. During his early career, he was a valuable member of the Jaycees. On June 30, 1962, Roy married his high school sweetheart Helenanne Mouldey in Kingston, Ontario. After a very successful career in Human Resources at Xerox Canada, Roy could be found golfing, traveling, wintering in Myrtle Beach and spending time with his family and friends. Roy is survived by: his wife, Helenanne; his children Kelly (Phil), Tracy (Steven) and Shane; five admiring and adoring grandchildren Paige, Torri, Reese, Connor and Quinn; two loving sisters Betty Windsor and Norma Wing; and many caring nieces and nephews who he cherished spending time with. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society are appreciated.

Helenanne and family; My heartfelt sympathy to you at this sad time.
Roy was a valued mentor to me in my career for many years. I admired his dedication to his work in different roles over many decades and enjoyed his sense of humour.
I remember with a big smile, the visits to your family home at Hallowe'en with a colleague, Karen. We could harder contain our laughter as Roy and Helenanne tried to figure out who was behind the costumes. Of course, once they did we were invited in for a visit. What fun!

Roy was an true HR professional. He viewed employee advocacy as a primary responsibility, particularly when he saw unfair treatment. His colleagues and I very much appreciated his friendship and clearheaded judgment.

Uncle Roy was my confidant, my mentor, my idol and my best friend who will be sorely missed by both Cathy and I. I will cherish the memory of attending the 100th Grey Cup with my Uncle Roy to watch the Toronto Argonauts march to victory for the rest of my live. RIP Uncle Roy
