Wayne Henry Obituary

Wayne Milton Henry, age 64 years, of McAuley, Manitoba passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Reston Health Centre - Transitional Unit in Reston, Manitoba after a courageous battle with cancer.

Wayne was born at Maple Creek, Saskatchewan June 24, 1958, to Elsie H. (Huxted) & Milton J. Henry. The family moved to McAuley, Manitoba in 1964 where they lived on the PFRA community pasture.

Wayne attended Rutherglen School in McAuley and graduated from Virden Collegiate in 1976. He later continued his study at Olds Agricultural College in Olds, Alberta.

His life was filled with family, music, horseback riding, rodeos, and friends. Music came easy for Wayne and from the early age of nine until just recently, he spent many hours entertaining others with his lively piano playing.

He competed in many rodeos throughout Western Canada - calf roping, bulldogging, bull riding, and team roping. In 1980 he won the Manitoba Rookie of the Year award, and in 1981, his horse Red won the Manitoba #1 Healing Horse of the Year award.

Wayne's love for horses and riding brought him to work at several PFRA's in Saskatchewan. He also rode for a ranch in Texas. For many years he worked in Alberta and later he owned his own trucking business, Hotonka Creek Trucking, which proved to be very successful. He summered in McAuley and worked in the oilfield through the winter at Fort McMurray. More recently he owned a corral cleaning business based out of McAuley.

Wayne always challenged you to do your best - with no excuses! He will always be remembered for his generosity, quick comebacks and quirky sense of humour. Friends, family, and cousins will never forget the laughter and times of pure silliness spent together.

Wayne was predeceased by his mother Elsie. He will be missed by his father, Milton, brother Derald (Sharon), sister Lynn (Chris) Pedie, brother Steven (Christy), aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A private family burial will take place.

In lieu of flowers and plants, donations are preferred to Prairie Mountain Health for Reston Health Centre (Transitional Unit) or Moosomin and Area Healthcare Foundation for Southeast Integrated Care Centre.
